Fire Damage - What to Do Right Away

Has there just been a fire at your home or office? If so, you probably have smoke and water damage in addition to the fire damage. Here is what you should right away:
• Contact a local cleanup / restoration company (franchise) and ask them to come help you.
• Place something waterproof between furniture legs and carpeting, to prevent corrosion or wood splitting of the furniture legs. Aluminum foil and wood blocks usually work for this.
• Coat chrome-plated appliances and faucets with oil or petroleum jelly.
• As much as possible, don't disturb soot particles because you don't want them to spread to un-damaged parts of the proprety.
• Don't wash any painted surfaces.
• Don't shampoo the carpet.
• Don't send your clothing to a dry cleaner, unless they know how to safely remove smoke odor and soot.
• Avoid cleaning electrical equipment unless you are qualified to do so.
